Devices require a device certificate and private key installed to securely register with SquareOne and to be associated with a SquareOne Companion Server.
The private keys and certificates will need to be installed on each device. Ensure that the files are named correctly as follows:
- Device Private Key: device_private_key.pem
- Device Certificate: device_cert.pem
If these are provided in an encrypted format, it will be necessary to extract them before use. Once the private key is decrypted, it should be carefully protected until it is on the device, and copies should be deleted as soon as they are no longer needed.
For trial purposes, Bsquare provide certificates within the Windows and Linux installers, and registration should take place automatically upon installation.
For a wider deployment, Bsquare will work with you to optimize the installation of security content and the registration process.
Certificate Types
Device Certificates can be in the form of Single Use (unique per device) and Batch (for deployment onto multiple devices).
Single Use certificates provide increased security and require individual installation onto each device.
Batch certificates can be deployed to many devices, so they can be included within a reference OS image, providing increased convenience. Devices that use batch certificates require an additional approval step, described in the Device Approval article.
